New "Canada Line" rapid transit systems links downtown waterfront to Vancouver Airport

Now open for ridership: a $2 billion 19-kilometre automated light metro system provides a new fast, frequent transportation option for British Columbia visitors arriving and departing from the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Richmond, B.C.

Travellers are now able to cost-effectively travel from YVR to their downtown Vancouver destination. Travellers can purchase their boarding passes at the Airport and ride to downtown Vancouver in about 25 minutes.

Canada Line trains travel through a 14-minute long tunnel through the downtown core, crosses two bridges, and stops at 16 stations along the route to Richmond and YVR.

City visitors planning to catch a Canada Line to downtown Vancouver should note that rapid transit trains will alternate between end stops of YVR and Richmond-Brighouse.

By 2013, it is expected that the new rapid transit link will see 100,000 boardings a day.

  • Good point Joan. Let’s hope Translink is looking at more seating options at their various transfer stops as it’s all part of the customer experience.
